Identification of driver state for lane-keeping tasks

چکیده
Identification of driver state is a desirable element of many proposed vehicle active safety systems (e.g., collision detection and avoidance, automated highway, and road departure warning systems). In this paper, driver state assessment is considered in the context of a road departure warning and intervention system. A system identification approach, using vehicle lateral position as the input and steering wheel position as the output, is used to develop a model and to update its parameters during driving. Preliminary driving simulator results indicate that changes in the bandwidth and/or parameters of such a model may be useful indicators of driver fatigue. The approach is then applied to data from 12 2-h highway driving runs conducted in a full-vehicle driving simulator. The identified model parameters ( ; !n, and dc gain) do not exhibit the trends expected as lane keeping performance deteriorates, despite having acceptably white residuals. As an alternative, model residuals are compared in a process monitoring approach using a model fit to an early portion of the 2-h driver run. Model residuals show the expected trends and have potential in serving as the basis for a driver state monitor.

Perception of the lead car’s braking was measured on-road when subjects of various levels of driving experience were looking at a digital display located at the lower part of the windscreen, at the speedometer level, or in the mid-console. The brake lights of the lead car were either working normally or switched off. The results indicated that the detection of the lead car’s brake lights, in da...

The concept of Ford’s lane keeping sys tem includes two variants: The driver can select a warning function and a lane keeping function in case the vehicle leaves its current lane, known as lane keeping alert, ❶, and lane keeping aid, ❷, respectively. Both functions make use of a camera serving as a sensor for iden tifying the traffic lane and the lane mark ings. Identifying the ve hicle’s ow...
متن کاملLane Change Trajectory Model Considering the Driver Effects Based on MANFIS
The lane change maneuver is among the most popular driving behaviors. It is also the basic element of important maneuvers like overtaking maneuver. Therefore, it is chosen as the focus of this study and novel multi-input multi-output adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system models (MANFIS) are proposed for this behavior. These models are able to simulate and predict the future behavior of a Dri...
متن کاملTowards a Human-like Vision System for Resource-Constrained Intelligent Cars
Research on computer vision systems for driver assistance resulted in a variety of approaches mainly performing reactive tasks like, e.g., lane keeping. However, for a full understanding of generic traffic situations, integrated and more flexible approaches are needed. We present a system inspired by the human visual system. Based on combining taskdependent tunable visual saliency, an object re...
متن کاملPREDICTING DRIVER LANE CHANGE MANEUVERs USING VEHICLE KINEMATIC DATA
One of the challenges of lane departure warning (LDW) systems is to differentiate between normal lane keeping behavior and lane change events in which drivers simply do not use the lane change indicator. Lane keeping behavior differs between drivers and often between driving scenarios, therefore a static threshold of predicting steering maneuver is not an ideal solution. The objective of the cu...
